What makes Buhoma special?
Buhoma Lodge is a real traveller favourite for gorilla trekkers in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Its flagship feature is its location, situated just 5 minutes from the Buhoma trailhead. The lodge doesn't have the same luxury feel as other accommodation options at the Buhoma trailhead like Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge or Sanctuary Forest Camp, but it retains a sense of character and the service is exceptional.
Of course, like all the accommodation in Bwindi, the staff go that extra mile to make your stay comfortable before and after your gorilla trek, and massages and laundry service are included free of charge. A simple, but charming and pleasant lodge that always over-delivers, and rarely disappoints.
Rooms & Amenities
Accommodation is in 10 chalets, each with an en-suite bathrooms, large windows, and a private veranda that has great views over the forest. The chalets are built on raised platforms, creating a treehouse-like aesthetic, which puts them at a great vantage point to enjoy the views of the sprawling forest beyond. The chalets are a decent size, with double or twin beds. There is also a family chalet that has two bedrooms.
The wood and thatched main building contains a comfortable dining and lounge area with a restaurant and bar which serves food that all of our travellers rave about.
Activities at Buhoma Lodge
Even if Bwindi was not home to the mountain gorilla, its remoteness, natural beauty and enthralling biodiversity would attract visitors. But it is those magnificent great apes that have made Bwindi Uganda’s single most important tourist destination.
Beyond the gorillas, Bwindi offers some fantastic forest walks, the wildlife is staggering in its breadth and ranges far beyond just the gorillas, and spending time with the people of Bwindi, learning their history and relationship with the forest is captivating.
